Bruce Grobbelaar 2018

He will always be remembered for the 1984 European Cup finalissima. It had ended in a penalty shoot-out and the protagonist had been Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobelaar. Victory at the Stadio Olimpico went to the Reds, and Grobelaar earned a new nickname from that day on – Spaghetti Legs – after his excellent performance between the posts in the shoot-out. Grobelaar continued to follow Liverpool even after he ended his career.

Grobelaar born in Zimbabwe defended the goalposts for the Kopites, as Liverpool are known, for 13 years between 1981 and 1994. Grobbelaar played 440 games with Liverpool and was protagonist in several trophies won by Liverpool.

“I was lucky to play with the best team in Europe at the time. And I never thought that we had to wait 30 years to lift the trophy. But now that it happened, the players need to settle down. They’ve got to take that into themselves and I know that Jurgen Klopp is going to say to them ‘You’ve won this year, but nothing from next season. Next season we start again’“.
